In Facade, Joke returns to Argillières, a small village in France, where her father has a second home and spends his summers. On her first visit, she rises before dawn and sets out to explore the quiet, narrow streets. It is the façades that draw her in. She photographs them with a detached eye, capturing the marks of time on buildings that seem to be slowly slipping into the past.

The series echoes the work of renowned German photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher, whose meticulous, systematic studies of industrial architecture approached the built environment with an almost scientific precision.
